Sixth Grade
Curriculum
Bible: Abeka| Students are guided in learning more about God and His plan of salvation for all people. Students will apply God’s standards in establishing good Christian living skills and will use Bible study aids such as cross-references, concordances, Bible dictionaries, and Bible commentaries.
Literature: | Students are engaged with a variety of character-building stories as well as classical literature selections from which biblical principles are drawn. An emphasis on literary elements, higher-level thinking skills, and vocabulary enrichment is a bridge to the traditional literature classes that begin in junior high.
Math: Bob Jones Press | Students are taught to apply their knowledge of operations and properties with whole numbers to fractions, decimals, and solving for unknowns in geometry while learning the grammar of math 87. Saxon.
History: Bob Jones Press | Tour the lands, peoples, and cultures of ancient civilizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Help your students learn the history and influences of these peoples on religion and the world today. Students expand Christian worldview and enrich their critical thinking skills.
Science: Bob Jones Press | Students are shown God’s wonderful creation through a study of the earth, cells and organisms, matter and energy, astronomy, heredity, and the nervous and immune systems.
Spanish: | Pronunciation and expansion of content for children.
Writing/Grammar: Bob Jones Press | English 6 continues the study of sentences, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions as well as practice in reference skills. Students use the Writing Process to write personal narratives, newspaper editorials, instructions, research reports, historical fiction, compare-contrast essays, limericks, free verse, and cover letters for submitting work to a publisher.

Bible: Bob Jones Press | Study Christ’s example through His experiences, sermons, miracles, and parables. Contains a brand new unit going verse by verse through the Sermon on the Mount.
Literature: | Students are introduced to a biblical perspective on theme books. Students are taught to interpret, analyze, evaluate, and appreciate authors, works, themes, and terms in light of Scripture
Math: Bob Jones Press | Algebraic expressions and linear equations are applied throughout a comprehensive review of operations on integers, fractions, decimals, percents, and radicals. Students explore relations and functions using equations, tables, and graphs. This is a great transition into the “dialectic stage” of math.
History-World Studies: Bob Jones Press | A look at the civilizations of the world through the lens of a Christian worldview. World Studies begins with a brief review of history from Creation to the coming of Christ and progresses in a chronological journey around the world studying the ebb and flow of empires, cultures, Christianity, and world religions, concluding with an examination of the trends of the emerging 21st century.
General Science: Bob Jones Press | This course is designed to be a systematic introduction to science in general and has no prerequisites. The student will learn about the scientific method, designing experiments, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology, human anatomy and human physiology in an introductory way. No lab equipment is required. Necessary materials for experiments are common household items.
English 7: Bob Jones Press | Students are introduced to various ways to learn word meanings and use Latin word parts to teach recognition of word families. Topics include synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, positive and negative context clues, and words.
Writing/Grammar: Bob Jones Press | All eight parts of speech are taught, the five basic sentence patterns, usage concepts such as subject-verb agreement and clear pronoun reference, and mechanics. Physical Science: Bob Jones Press | Recommended to follow the general science course, this course discusses the atmosphere, hydrosphere, weather, structure of the earth, environmentalism, physics of motion, Newton`s Laws, gravity and astrophysics. Myths generated by the hysterical environmentalist movement are addressed. Many hands-on experiments – all use common household chemicals and supplies.
